Grândola, September 29, 2025 – The Tróia Design Hotel Entertainment Center, on the Tróia Peninsula, was the place chosen to host the World Tourism Day 2025 Conference. The event, promoted by the Confederation of Tourism of Portugal (CTP), in partnership with the Regional Tourism Entity of Alentejo and Ribatejo and the Municipality of Grândola, brought together more than 350 participants under the motto “Tourism is Portugal”.

Senior figures from the State and the tourism sector were present, including the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, the Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic, Teresa Morais, the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, and the Deputy Minister and State Reform, Gonçalo Matias. The meeting’s program included two debate panels: “Horizon 2035: Tourism as an Engine for the Transformation of Portuguese Society” and “Alentejo: Tourism, Culture and Territorial Competitiveness”, with interventions by government representatives, businessmen and academics linked to the area. The event also included the ceremony of awarding the Medals of Tourism Merit.

In an interview with Alentrium.Pt, the mayor of Grândola highlighted the importance of the event for the region: “Hosting this national conference with the presence of several government officials is synonymous with the fact that the Alentejo Litoral is thriving, it has large investment projects”.

The mayor added that “it is an area that interests us a lot. It brings concerns, but also many opportunities. This choice recognizes the work developed by local and regional entities, namely by Turismo do Alentejo e Ribatejo”.

The holding of the conference in Tróia represents a sign of recognition of the tourism dynamics of the region, contributing to consolidate the Alentejo coast as a destination of national and international relevance, in a context of growing commitment to sustainable development, the enhancement of endogenous resources and the qualification of the tourist offer.
