On Sunday, August 31, Largo 25 de Abril hosted the official presentation of the candidacy of the Movement for Vila Viçosa for the municipal elections of October 12. Inácio Esperança, current mayor, is running for a second term, with the support of the AD coalition (PSD, CDS-PP, PPM).

The event was attended by Miguel Pinto Luz, member of the National Political Commission of the PSD, who traveled to Vila Viçosa to express his support. Speaking to Alentrium.pt, the Minister of Infrastructure highlighted the importance of continuing this political project:

“I have a family connection to Vila Viçosa and I know this land well. Inácio Esperança is a friend and, above all, someone deeply committed to the development of the municipality. In these four years, he has demonstrated leadership capacity and strategic vision.”

Referring to the party’s performance in the region, Miguel Pinto Luz recalled:

“The PSD won four chambers in the region in the last municipal elections. Our goal is to strengthen this presence and we believe that Vila Viçosa will continue to be one of those examples.”

About the role of Inácio Esperança, he added:

“We are facing a mayor who managed to boost a territory that had been facing structural challenges for several years. Your action has contributed to reversing this cycle.”

Regarding the regional context, he highlighted:

“The Alentejo had a lack of investment for many years. This Government, the PSD, is investing in the Alentejo precisely because we believe that it is, perhaps, the jewel in the crown of the country’s next cycle of economic development.”

As for the difference between electoral contexts, he concluded:

“Local elections have their own dynamics. Voters evaluate the work done on the ground. We are confident that this recognition will be reflected at the ballot box, as a result of the work done by our mayors.”

The presentation of the candidacy marked the official start of the campaign in Vila Viçosa. The municipal elections are scheduled for October 12, when the voters of the municipality will decide who will lead the destiny of the municipality in the next term.
