A public consultation is currently open for the Scoping Proposal of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Cachenas Wind Farm project, promoted by Petrogal, Petróleos de Portugal, S.A. The process runs from 23 December 2025 to 14 January 2026, under the framework of Portugal’s Environmental Impact Assessment procedure.
The aim of this phase is to identify and assess the environmental aspects likely to be affected by the project and to determine which of these aspects should be addressed in the Environmental Impact Assessment.
According to the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), which coordinates the procedure, “the decision on the Scoping Proposal does not concern the project’s approval, but rather the scope and content of the Environmental Impact Assessment itself.” A final decision on the project will be made only after the full EIA process has been completed.
The project affects areas within the municipalities of Odemira (parish of Vila Nova de Milfontes), Santiago do Cacém(Union of the Parishes of Santiago do Cacém, Santa Cruz and São Bartolomeu da Serra), and Sines (parish of Porto Covo), located in the Alentejo region.
Public participation is possible via the submission of comments and observations during the consultation period. The process is overseen by the Portuguese Environment Agency, which also serves as the coordinating authority.
