Pedro Amaral was appointed artistic director of the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, succeeding the previous direction. The decision was taken unanimously, after evaluating 21 applications considered eligible by the jury responsible for the selection process.
Professor at the Department of Music of the School of Arts of the University of Évora, Pedro Amaral was chosen based on the programmatic proposal presented, as well as his academic training and professional experience in the artistic sector. The jury also highlighted the candidate’s comprehensive vision, as well as his critical capacity and commitment to the challenges associated with the direction of the National Theater of São Carlos.
The new artistic direction will be responsible for guiding the programming of the national lyrical theater, at a time when the cultural sector faces several challenges of renewal and sustainability.
