Herdade do Esporão awarded Two Suns by the Repsol Guide

Restaurant in Reguengos de Monsaraz is the only Alentejo project to achieve a Two Suns distinction in the 2025 edition

The Repsol Guide has awarded Two Suns to the restaurant at Herdade do Esporão, making it the only establishment in the Alentejo to reach this category in the 2025 edition of the guide. The distinction was announced during the first Repsol Guide Suns Gala held in Santarém, marking the guide’s return to Portugal after a nine-year absence.

The Two Suns category recognises restaurants that stand out for the consistency of their cuisine, the strength of their identity, the quality of service and a clear connection to their territory. According to the Repsol Guide, the Esporão restaurant reflects these criteria through a culinary approach rooted in seasonalitylocal produce and a strong commitment to sustainable practices.

Located within one of Portugal’s most emblematic agricultural estates, the restaurant has established itself as a reference for contemporary Alentejo cuisine, combining regional tradition with modern techniques and innovation. The project reinforces the close relationship between gastronomy, wine production and landscape that characterises the Esporão estate.

In the Portuguese edition of the Repsol Guide 2025, a total of 70 Suns were awarded nationwide — four restaurants with Three Suns, 17 with Two Suns and 49 with One Sun — alongside 124 Recommended restaurants and four Sustainability Sun awards.

The distinction of Herdade do Esporão with Two Suns places the Alentejo firmly on Portugal’s gastronomic map at the highest level, highlighting the region’s growing relevance in national and Iberian fine dining and its role in promoting a cuisine deeply connected to origin, territory and sustainability.
