Portuguese region strengthens its global tourism positioning, with Marvão highlighted as a key destination
The Alentejo region was featured at an international event held in Madrid after being shortlisted for Best International Tourism Destination by Forbes Travel, alongside countries such as Chile and Japan.

Although the award was not ultimately granted to the Portuguese region, the nomination is seen as recognition of Alentejo’s growing international presence as a destination associated with quality, authenticity and a slow lifestyleincreasingly valued by global travellers.
The event brought together institutional representatives and leading figures from the international tourism sector, including the Spanish Minister of Economy.
Among the region’s standout locations, Marvão continues to play a significant role in promoting Alentejo abroad, contributing through its heritage, landscape and cultural identity.
Despite not securing the top distinction, the nomination reinforces Alentejo’s visibility in international markets and consolidates its reputation as a destination of excellence.
