ÉVORA – The exhibition “A CASA – photography by Margarida Lagarto” opened on 13 December at the João Cutileiro House-Atelier in Évora, marking the beginning of this space’s cultural programme within the framework of Évora_27 – European Capital of Culture.

The exhibition is open to visitors Wednesday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 16:00, and will run until 28 February 2026.

Part of the João Cutileiro Arts Centre initiative, the exhibition features a collection of photographs taken over nearly four decades by Margarida Lagarto, the artist’s wife. These intimate images document the everyday life and working environment of one of Portugal’s most celebrated sculptors, revealing the personal and artistic atmosphere of the space where he lived and created.

video included in the exhibition invites viewers inside the house and studio, offering a rare glimpse into the sculptor’s world — the place where many of his marble sculptures were conceived and brought to life.

“This house is currently in transition, awaiting restoration. But until then, the Arts Centre aims to keep it alive by hosting exhibitions and sharing different aspects of João Cutileiro’s legacy,” said Ana Cristina Pais, a representative of the Évora_27 task force.
“This is not just a temporary cultural programme; it’s a long-term project that will remain part of the city beyond 2027.”
